Our People & How We Work
At Cosy Cottage, we make natural products with care and we try to run our business the same way.
We hire people, not profiles
We’ve always believed that talent, reliability, kindness, integrity and a good attitude matter far more than age, background, nationality or personal history. Over the years our team has included people at every stage of life and from every kind of background; school leavers and students in their first job, retirees returning to work, people with disabilities, people from many different countries, people of all genders and orientations. We have also given opportunities to people with criminal records who were looking for a fresh start. We believe in second chances and we’ve never had cause to regret it.
Why we don’t make a big deal of this — and why we’re mentioning it anyway
Inclusive employment shouldn’t be remarkable. We don’t hire diversely to tick boxes or win awards, we do it because it’s the right thing to do, it's who we are and because the best person for a job is simply the best person for the job. We’re mentioning it here because we think transparency matters, and because we hope it might encourage others to think the same way.
A family business in the truest sense
Cosy Cottage is a family business, not just in ownership, but in how we operate. We know our team members by name, we know their circumstances, and we try to be the kind of employer we’d want to work for ourselves. We don’t have an HR department, a phalanx of lawyers or a long and complicated diversity policy, written by a consultant. What we have is a genuine belief that how you treat people, customers, partners, employees, suppliers says everything about who you are. We try to get that right every day.
