Natural Skincare tips for Springtime

Top Tips for Natural Skincare this Spring

Weather warms, trees and plants come into bud, days lengthen and moods lighten as we look forward to the summer ahead. A Gallup Poll survey conducted in 2024 concluded that 36% of people consider Spring to be their favourite season.

But what happens to our skin at this time of year and how can we adapt our winter routine to provide the very best care during this season of renewal?

Good news for Skin in Spring

Rising temperatures, rising humidity and longer periods of sunlight can certainly lift our mood. In a study in 2022, the condition of our skin was also found to improve as winter turns to spring, with between a quarter and a third of participants experiencing reduced water loss through the skin (TEWL), reduced roughness, enhanced skin thickness and improved elasticity identified through a period of experiments and skin studies.

Great news all round and certainly something to celebrate!

Age Spots and Increased Sebum Production

On the other hand, higher UV absorption may lead to the development of age spots, while rising heat and humidity often cause sebum production to surge quickly.  In turn this increase in sebum can lead to greasy-looking skin, an increase in clogged pores and in susceptible people, can induce acne flare-ups.

Our moisturising shea butter facial soap is the ideal springtime standby, providing gentle, effective cleansing, unclogging pores and being suitable for daily or more frequent use. Our customers provide numerous instances of feedback celebrating the reduction in acne flare-ups and calming of oily skin after they started using our moisturising shea butter soap.

For deeper exfoliation and unclogging of congested pores, why not try our jojoba and geranium facial scrub. Our scrub’s all-natural, preservative free ingredients ensure a reduced risk of adverse or allergic reactions and the surfactant free, plant derived formulation avoids dryness.

Allergies, Hay Fever and our Springtime Skin

Along with increased temperatures, in addition to the clogging effects from increased sebum production comes an increased tendency for itchy skin rashes; some associated with the seasonal release of pollen from grasses, plants and trees coming into bud and flower at this time of year. While much is known about traditional hay-fever symptoms of runny nose and sneezing, AllergyUK also provide a wealth of helpful information and preventative tips for the full scope of pollen triggered conditions, including skin irritation.

Our aloin rich regenerative face mask, made from extracts of seaweed, from the Yorkshire coast, is ideal for calming, cooling and refreshing troublesome rashes and our Hempseed and Patchouli Oil soaps and Balms containing natural sources of vitamin E have been celebrated since launch over seven years ago by those with itchy, sensitive skin.

Hormone – related conditions

Increased temperatures and humidity in Springtime can lead to increases in the symptoms associated with rosacea and the skin rashes triggered by hormonal change.

We consistently receive great feedback from more mature customers with rosacea or the age-related effects of hormonal change, who see real benefits from switching to a natural facial skincare routine. Also, we receive numerous reviews and verbal testimonials in our store citing the calming effects of our Chamomile Baby Balm, not only for babies’ rashes but for menopausal and other adult skin conditions too.

So the arrival of Springtime is not only great news for our mood, our gardens and our wellbeing but also for the condition of our skin. With a few, gentle seasonal adjustments to our Natural Skincare routines, we can wave the winter goodbye and enjoy the benefits of our skins’ improved condition while managing the increased risk of acne flare ups, any unwanted effects of increased sebum production, allergy triggered itches and rashes and hormonal associated conditions.
