Chamomile - Longstanding benefits for Relaxation and Health

Chamomile beauty products

For around 5000 years chamomile has been used in the treatment of a wide variety of conditions, including many conditions of the skin. This daisy-like plant contains a wealth of bio-active compounds, which have been scientifically researched for their beneficial effects on health.

Chamomile is frequently consumed as a tea or tincture, created from the dried flowers of the plant. Chamomile tea is recommended in the treatment of conditions including hay fever, insomnia, gastrointestinal disorders and rheumatic pain. Many of us already enjoy the benefits of a cup of chamomile tea before bedtime and we always pop a couple of bags into our longstanding and popular Soak, Snuggle and Relax gift boxes.

Research has been undertaken into the use of chamomile for serious conditions, such as cancer, gout and diabetes. While, in many instances, early results appear favourable, additional clinically proven evidence is required before the definitive benefits for these serious illnesses can be fully proven.

Chamomile is already well established, however, in the treatment of skin conditionsOne study in 1994, across a group of human volunteers, showed that chamomile essential oil can be absorbed by the skin, which makes it ideal for use in a creams, balms and wash products. In addition to traditional uses for the relief of nappy-rash, sunburn and other skin rashes, other studies have evidenced effectiveness as an anti-inflammatory, including in the treatment of eczema.

It's for these reasons that we selected essential oil, created from pure, steam distilled Roman Chamomile flowers, as the staple for several of our new products and ranges, including our Chamomile Make-Up remover and our Cosy Cuddles Baby range.

In addition to the great feedback from new mothers and fathers, we are also receiving positive commentary from adults and the parents of older children with skin sensitivities which have been ameliorated following use of our Cosy Cuddles range.

Among the team, in addition to the Cosy Cuddles range, several of us are trying out our popular and effective Chamomile Make-up remover as a soothing balm for areas of sore skin and eczema. We'll let you know how we get on. In the meantime, check out all our chamomile products here
