Bank Holiday Gardening

We love spending time outdoors, in our gardens or being surrounded by nature. It's a happy place for all members of the Cosy Cottage team. You'll often find us taking a walk on our lunch breaks to our favourite sandwich shop (find more about a day in the life here), or staring out over the beautiful Howardian Hills at the bottom of our garden. This weekend sees the coinciding of National Gardening Week and the Early May Bank Holiday; the perfect excuse to be heading out for a potter.

Gardening (and by gardening here we mean weeding, digging, raking and planting rather than wandering around with the hose) for 30 to 45 minutes a day can burn 150 to 300 calories. Brilliant! Gardening is a brilliant activity for the mind as well as the body. Spending time outdoors and pottering around can be wonderfully beneficial for creating a peaceful mind. Have a read of this Guardian article which talks about the mindfulness benefits of the past time.

At the end of a tough day in the garden, what's better than a BBQ or alfresco salad on the patio outside? But wait...what about those pesky flies and midges that seem so determined to ruin our time?! Our Lemongrass Soy Wax Candle is the perfect solution as Lemongrass Essential Oil have brilliant properties to keep mosquitos at bay. You've no doubt seen citronella candles in shops and may even have your own on your table during the summer. Citronella is a natural oil found in lemongrass and works effectively as a natural insect repellant.

While we love gardening and getting our hands dirty, we often find we come in from a day of pottering with cracked, dry skin. The best solution we have found is our Hempseed Oil Hand and Body Cream. It works wonders on soothing sore skin. All our green-fingered friends agree and we have had lovely feedback from customers who's hands have been transformed by our little pot of wonders.
All of our scents are essential oils as opposed to heavier synthetic fragrance oils many high street brands opt to use. Our essential oil fragrances are all natural. That headache you get when lighting a candle or applying a strong smelling hand cream? Check out the ingredients because it could well be the chemicals found in fragrance oils causing it. [Tip: some soy wax candles also contain fragrance oils. We've been fooled before by the soy wax labelling thinking they avoid harsh chemicals!] Our products, on the other hand, use only steamed distilled fruits and flowers to create gentle and natural fragrances. We aim to transport you to a relaxing evening on a warm summers day. You can almost reach out and touch the lavender with your fingers with our Lavender Diffuser!

Have a lovely Bank Holiday Weekend and we hope you get to enjoy some quality time outside.
